Can you believe it? On Thursday it was a whole 12 months since i saw Alli walking up the bank towards the Observatory and she looked great and even more fantastic now.
I had been in two minds whether to bother to go to the meeting as I wasn't sure it was my sort of thing. However, I did go in the end but I was a bit late. Afterwards I found out that Alli nearly didn't go either. She was tired and wondered if it was going to be worth the effort. We often wonder now if it was fate?
My wonderful fiancee gave me a bunch of flowers, a cute present and a beautiful card on the morning of our special day and I felt quite awful because I had forgotten to get anything. My phone reminder didn't go off until ten am, so I didn't set that very well.
Anyway, I let her choose whether she wanted a present or a nice meal out at place of her choice and she chose the latter. I still got her card too and wondered all day where we would be going to? When I got home, Alli told me she would like to go to Oscars, which apparently is where she went for her birthday last year.
She rang Oscars several time but there was no answer. In the end we decided that they obviously weren't open on Thursdays so we rang Brunswick instead. They got us a table straight away so we booked it.
Alli looked absolutely gorgeous in a long beige linen dress and a brown, loosely knitted cardigan' I wore my black and white dress with a new black jacket. It was a very special occaison and we were pleased with the way we dressed for it.
Neither of us has ever been to Brunswick before but Alli was convinced that she had read some good reports about it, so we were quite confident that it would be a good restaurant. I don't know if it was fate again or what but we found a parking space directly outside the restaurant which was great because it was absoulutely peeing down and I didn't fancy walking too far in it.
The restaurant was small and cosy but immaculately decorated. We both liked it instantly. It was only half past six yet the place was already buzzing. We were not left to wait very long at all before we got shown to our table and ordered our drinks. Alli had a miniature bottle of red wine and I had a coke. It's not something I normally drink but I couldn't think of anything else to say.
They had a special 3-course dinner offer on so we both opted to go for that. Alli's starter was garlic mushrooms with a piece of bread soaked in the garlic butter. It smelled gorgeous and she gave me a mushroom to taste. Mmm, wonderful! My starter was a huge piece of brie in breadcrumbs on a bed of apricot sauce with strawberries and kivi fruit. Absolutely delicious!
By now we were convinced that we were meant to come here. It was just so nice. The staff did everything they could to make our night memorable. They lit the candle on our table and took a photo of us on my phone. The food was just out of this world. Not only was it odd that Oscars were closed and we got our car outside the window on one of the busiest streets in Newcastle. We definitely were meant to come here.
The rest of the meal consisted of Mushroom Stroganoff and Applepie with fresh cream for Alli and Red Thai Chicken Curry and Creme Brulee for me and a nice cup of coffee for after. All this for less than £40. How fantastic was that?
